Last week we were fixated on pure white watches, but this week we’re all about sultry, sophisticated black. A black watch, or one with a black dial, oozes luxury. When you add a black dial to a Rolex Submariner, it’s an instant update to masculine luxe. A midnight black Montblanc is rich with pops of gold, and a diamond studded Royal Oak takes black to the next level – and we’re just getting started. Check out our favorite black watches below. The world saw the first Rolex Submariner in 1954 at the Swiss Watch Fair. Aptly named, the classic watch was made for divers and featured great water resistance. Rolex began production of the Submariner in 1953 as part of the Oyster Perpetual line. Two models with reference numbers one digit apart were produced that were virtually identical. These early Submariners had straight pencil style hands rather than the “Mercedes” or “cathedral hands of later models.
Some of the first early models produced have the logo blackened out, while the logo can be found below the center pinion on others. This can probably be explained by trademark issues at that time. Later, the Submariner logo appeared along with printed depth rating.
There were a few 1954 Submariners that featured the trademark Mercedes hands associated with today’s model. The styling of the Submariner went through subtle changes through the years involving crown size and printing substances used on the glossy black dials. A chronometer version was produced in some models. Finally, models introduced in the 1960s included a date complication. The Submariner then became a mass market product.

Rolex Submariners – The Watch for an Attractive Man
While the average woman’s jewelry must-have is a diamond ring, the average man’s must-have is a watch. But not really just any watch, a Rolex Submariner. However, Rolex’s don’t come cheap, and they tend to be the watch that identifies with a wealthy man.
First invented in 1954, the Rolex Submariner has had a total of 28 models designed, with only eight of them current models available for purchasing. This luxury watch is constantly being redesigned with new features and capabilities to suit a variety of men with different tastes.
The Rolex Submariner luxury watch makes such a statement on a man, that it has appeared in eleven James Bond films. Despite that, many celebrities have also been spotted with these watches, which includes Jesse Metcalfe of Desperate Housewives, Mark McGrath, Robert Redford, Jeff Bridges, Luke Wilson, and Johnny Depp.
The Rolex Submariner has such amazing capabilities that very few watches on the market today can even compete with it. This watch is incredibly water resistant, being able to go into waters as deep as 1,000 feet. Not only can it handle such water depth, but it can tolerate temperatures as cold as -45 degrees Celsius. These capabilities make this luxury watch very ideal for men who are divers, in the Navy, underwater photographers, or who live or work in places as cold as Antarctica. No matter how far underwater or cold a man is, he just wants to know what time it is, right? Well, this is the watch for that!
Otherwise, if you just want to be cool,
this is the watch to achieve that. Just look at Bond.

This Timepiece Thursday, let’s gander at some watches just for their looks and not for the brand or some incredible new function or complication. It’s a change of pace and can give us some real eye candy from the timepiece genre.
Nuvall has come out with a model called METAL. CH that has a very appealing color combination. The straps on both model types match the face with rose gold mixed with white or a gorgeous blue. The Nuval luxury watchmakers really caught a winner with this model.
New to the market is a graphic designer’s dream come true. The OceanArc Series is a design in the diver’s watch category. Since 2008, Kevin Lambert has been working to achieve the first watch for divers.
It has a very unique and bold look that gives the impression of a diver wearing such a timepiece. With a limited production of only 500, this is sure to get a lot of attention when it is released to the public. The Super-luminova numbers on the bezel and tips of the seconds and minutes hands really light up the watch face. It will get your attention!
I am in awe of one Rolex that has got so much rich color and amazing craftsmanship. The is surrounded by a “rainbow” of colors on the bezel made up of sapphire gems amid diamonds on the face with gold saturating the watch. A black face really brings out the colors causing a real “pop” affect…very appealing! This watch, while a top of the line luxury watch, could easily be viewed as a showpiece all by itself, absolutely beautiful and bold!
There are literally hundreds of gorgeous watches that would take hours to view. Suffice to say that going to a luxury watch display at a jeweler would be a lot of fun!

Rolex Makes A Watch For Every Occasion
There could be a hundred blogs written about the various Rolex watches that exist and how there truly is one for just about every occaision. However, all of this is based on perception of the most important factor in the equation… YOU! Your style! Your taste! Seeing is believing. Wearing… well, wearing alone will tell you which Rolex is right for you.
How Long Have Rolex Watches Been Around
For over 107 years, Rolex has been making its mark on the watchmaking scene with very impressive designs and functions.
Complications are the guide to what sets apart luxury watches from the rest. With Rolex being an industry leader, the remarkable appearance of their selection has a broad stroke of elegance, refinement, confidence, and durability.
It would be easy to say that one watch is better than another based upon personal opinion, however, this serves no general purpose and is not fair to the perception of owners worldwide. As an example, consider these watches for the ladies and gents for a teaser of what else may be in the repertoire of Rolex.
Beginning with the Cellini model, there are several choices that could truly work for any occasion. The Prince watches yield a solid and sleek design with straps perfectly matched for the timepiece they will hold. If ever one might seek to own beauty and style that exudes a class of its own, the Prince would accomplish such a feat.
Since the theme is all about “every occasion”, the epitome of a diving watch would be the Oyster Perpetual Rolex Sea-Dweller. To accommodate all of the stresses and diverse needs of those electing to enjoy recreational or professional diving, this fabulous watch has been tested to well over 12,800 feet. Testing has ensured the owners that they are going to experience excellence underwater every time at virtually every depth divers may endure. Such austere measures taken to create the best of the best in diving watches has taken Rolex to new heights, or should I say depths.
One last teaser is the new Oyster Perpetual Rolex Sky-Dweller. Recently released, the freshly designed and astounding functions help to make this feature-filled watch a worldwide conversation timepiece. Its soothing appearance that simply flows from function to function makes time-keeping in two different timezones a real treat and easy on the eyes. An additional marvel is the ability to never have to adjust the date except in February of each year. An aperture above each hour indicator is the month shown in a different color when the current month is displayed. If the indication is colored in above the hour of 3, this notifies the owner it is the month of March; simple, yet ingenious.
