2012 Fashion Trends: Oriental Prints, Fur Trims and Short Hems Coming Soon! – From The Archive

Today we’re starting a new Sunday series – throwbacks from past posts of yore. Enjoy below, and see if we were right in predicting any of 2012′s biggest new trends:

Fashion Trends of 2012:

Expect to see prints of the Orient, Lace and Fur Trimming similar to the style of the 1920′s, and Mod Infused Early ’60s Hemlines

Thanks to great resources like Fashionising.com, getting a heads up on the next years fashion trends is within reach. While it’s still a bit early to predict what significantly different changes will take off with a fluster and what trends will fall as complete blunders in 2012, enough information is available to (at the very least). help us prepare the best way possible.

I can only hope that the biker-chic style that was so eminent in the stylings of 2011 remains steadfast as the year turns, as I still have to purchase both my motorcycle boots and jacket.  Of these two things… I have been virtual window shopping for the entirety of 2011.

Chanel Motorcycle Boots – Introduced During 2010 Fashion Week in NY
Philipp Plein Jacket – A MUST HAVE !!!

Now, that said.. Some new trends, both in prints, fits and hems are rumored to be big hits in the upcoming year of 2012. Of these, expect to see an increase in the street style wearing of Komono‘s, oriental prints will be more common, though expected to be a bit more subtle and floral in use. Exotic silks and authentic vintage Kimono’s would be great pre-planning purchases to be a well-prepared fashionista for 2012!

The vintage fashions of this year certainly will not die off and disappear, but they will morph just a bit. From the sophisticated ’70s style we’ve seen so much of this year, with the soft flowing curls and slinky fabrics, expect a shift into the style of the early 1960′s. We’re talking true Mod Girl stuff here, Peter pan collars, short hems, mod hair styles and the Twiggy fashioned eyeliner may be sneaking it’s way back into the fashion forefront.

This year has already opened itself up to many 1930′s inspired fashions, a trend heightened with the release of the Motion Picture, ‘Water for Elephants.’ For both Men and Women, there has been a throw-back to old-fashioned baseball caps, and early styled lace accented dressings for ladies. With the ‘Great Gatsby’ Film expected to be released in 2012, the same will be seen in relation to 1920′s Flapper Fashion.

Avoid costume like ensembles, as these will be easy to spot and difficult to avoid with an expected over-indulged availability of short black wigs and overdone Flapper dresses. Keep this classic trend modern by introducing the ’20s presence in your style in a minimalistic way. Wide-leg trousers and subtle fur trims are great ways to achieve this style without going overboard.

Wide-Leg Trousers
The Chanel ‘Le Boy’ (A MUST HAVE for 2012!)

The Chanel ‘Le Boy’ is the ultimate glamour bag, with the classic golden braided strap, and intricate lettered perfection of ‘CHANEL’ stitched along the bag’s wide end, these little puppies will be booming in popularity… I want the red one, bad. Already. :)

So, there you have it. A few fashion predictors to help you ease your way into a fashionable 2012 from start to finish. Now, we’ll get to what’s pressing currently, which is the preparation for bathing suit season, of course! Get ready for high waists, retro cuts and prints, the return of the one-piece (with a twist), and the early signs of the 1990′s fashion comebacks…

Introducing JA New York’s new designers | National Jeweler

National Jeweler published an article featuring the emerging jewelry designers that will be featured at the JA Summer Show, currently taking place at The Javits Center, New York, NY.  With enough time in between the NY Antique Jewelry & Watch Show and the IWJG Show, we were able to sneak in some time at the JA Summer Show.  Lucky us, we’ll have a sneak peak at the up and coming hottest trends in jewelry, and be able to say a quick hello to some vendors we’ve worked with in the past.

JA Summer Show

Of the jewelry designers featured in the article,G & G Creations stood out with some of the most incredible approaches to jewelry design that I’d ever seen. In fact, I’ve written fan mail already…

With a combined seven decades of experience in jewelry design and manufacturing, the newly formed Boston-based G&G Creations is a force to be reckoned with. In 2010, Vahe Ghazarian and Esin Guler and master gem setter Mihran Guler banded together to launch G&G Creations, a fabricator of high-end silver and karat gold designs.

Collections to date total four: Imprint features organic-looking lily pad shapes; Scroll features timeless swirl effects; Nyx, named for the Greek goddess of the night, showcases contrasting dark and light motifs (like skulls set with yellow gold accents); Faith pieces pay homage to religion. Couture or one-off pieces are also available.

All merchandise is made in the United States and starts at less than $1,000 retail. G&G currently has two retail accounts, including Boston’s Barmakian Jewelers. Fun fact: Sevan Biçakçi is a family friend of Esin and Mihran! – JCK

Charlie Sheen: Adonis DNA and Patek Philippe Devotion

A Looney Love Story

Charlie Sheen not only harnessed Tiger Blood and Adonis DNA, but also a potentially dangerous devotion to watchmaker, Patek Philippe. The high-profile fan, and expert of sorts in regard to the various wristwatch models of Patek Philippe, is arguably a bit too attached to these spectacular creations.  Not too long ago, you may remember, Sheen completely dismantled his hotel room at the Plaza. Charlie was a man on a mission, and hunted for his ‘Patek 5970′ even after the hotel room destruction.

Some may consider his “Crazy Torpedo of Truth” a symbol of a man who’s gone mad. However, Sheen’s high quality taste in regard to timepieces seems to have remained fully intact.  In the picture above, we see Charlie wearing one of his beloved Patek Philippe watches, a 5131, as he carefully balances a cigarette and stuffed tiger in the other hand.

What a classic capture this image is.  Sporting one of the most exquisite watchmakers in history on one wrist, and two of his classic bad-boy fixations in the other. In a way, it adds to my jovial adoration of Charlie Sheen.  Sure, he may believe that he is ‘above a normal human’, with elements of tiger blood, Adonis DNA and a Warlock status, but the man still knows great watches!

Charliee Sheen: A Twitpic of his beloved 'Patek Philippe'

This was one of the first ‘tweets’ made by Mr. Charlie Sheen. He titled the infamous ‘twitpic‘, ‘The only watch that keeps Warlock time‘.

There still remains a controversy over exactly what vintage model Patek it is that ‘keeps Warlock time’

Research leaves two possible suspects as to exactly which rare vintage model Patek Philippe is being worn by Sheen in the photograph.

#1: Patek Philippe Reference 2497

patekwatch.blogspot.com

#2: Patek Philippe Reference 2438/1

Patek Philippe 2438/1

The extremely uncommon, 37mm broad wristwatch was produced in small amounts, from 1952 into the early ’60s. Not just may be the fairly watch very uncommon, but it’s really useful. During a Christie’s public sale last year, this model was offered in close range to $707,612. This model possesses the Patek Philippe yearly diary “triple date” design motion, with 30 day indications. The indications have both a moon phase, in addition to the day, beneath them.

The variations between the 2497 model Patek and the 2438/1 are incredibly minor, leaving both as strong possible matches.

If anyone can tell me precisely which model Sheen is wearing in his ‘twitpic’…

I’ll give you 10% off any Patek Philippe timepiece purchase!
